Greek for a Day

GreeceOur Glendi is truly a celebration. Our focus is that –“we owe it to our ancestors to preserve entire those rights which they have delivered to
our care.”
So, it is through this yearly event our families gather to share the rich customs and traditions of our Hellenic culture and the noble ideals of our Greek Orthodox Christian faith. Our Greek customs and traditions richly add to the cultural fabric of this great nation of ours…the United States of America.

In 1984, the first St. Barbara Greek Glendi….Festival was organized on our church grounds with Tom Danson as the first Chairman. Initially the Glendi was a one day event for this small parish and gradually due to popular demand it became a four day festival.

Many have been the themes that we have celebrated during our Glendi…themes such as the Olympics, the Golden Age of Pericles, the Greek islands, the Hellenic cuisine, the Music of Greece, Byzantine Iconography, Greek Folk Dancing, and so on.

The success of our Glendi Festival belongs to all of our faithful parishioners and to our loyal supporters. Through the leadership and spiritual guidance of our founding pastor, Fr. Frank Kirlangitis, we were able to build a house of prayer and to meet the needs of our growing community. Under the leadership and spiritual guidance of our present pastor, Fr. Peter Andronache, we are now raising funds to rebuild our Education Building for the future of our children.

Yes, through our Glendi we celebrate the Greek in all of us. So, as the Greeks tell their visitors… “Welcome home. You’ve been away too long!” So join us in the celebration and…be “GREEK FOR A DAY”!
